Double opt-in introductions

Double opt-in introductions

You’re reading this article because I asked you to write a “double opt-in introduction”. What does that mean?

A double opt-in intro is a way of connecting two people where both parties must agree to be introduced before sharing any contact info. This ensures both people are interested and prepared for the intro, making the interaction more positive and productive.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Analía asks Bill (the introducer) to introduce her to Chuyu.
  2. Bill reaches out to Chuyu to see if they’re open to the introduction.
  3. If Chuyu agrees, Bill replies to Analía to confirm that Chuyu is interested.
  4. Bill sends an email to both Analía and Chuyu to exchange contact information.

Example

Analía: Hi Bill, I’d love to connect with Chuyu to potentially collaborate on my startup. Would you be willing to introduce us?

Bill: Sure, let me check with Chuyu first.

Bill (to Chuyu): Hi Chuyu, Analía is a friend of mine at a biotech startup working on […], and is interested in potentially collaborating with you to achieve […]. Would you be open to an introduction?

Chuyu: Yes, I’d be happy to connect with Analía!

Bill (to Analía): Chuyu said yes, I’ll introduce you both now!

Bill (to both Analía and Chuyu via email): Hi Chuyu, I’d like to introduce you to Analía. Analía is working on […] and is interested in collaborating on […]. I’ll let you both take it from here!
